Pet therapy normally stands for a soft therapy approach, based on interaction between the client and an animal. 

Child Psychiatrist Boris Levinson was the first to demonstrate around 1960 his theory on the beneficial effects of animal company, applying it in the treatment of his patients.

In 1981 the Delta Society was founded in the United States, dealing with the study of theraupeutical effects of animal company.

Today  pet therapy has achieved the rightful recognition and is applied in various social and care fields such as: nursing homes, hospitals, drug rehabilitation clinics.

Levinson discovered that taking care of an animal can calm anxieties, transmit love and help to overcome stress and depression.
